H.E. Zurmang Garwang Rinpoche, the highest lineage holder of the Zurman Kagyu tradition, will give an exceptionally rare empowerment as part of his teachings on the Seven-Point Mind Training at Kamalashila Institute. It concerns the four personal deities of the daily practice for Kadampa practitioners: Buddha Shakyamuni, Avalokiteshvara, the Green Tara, and Achala.
Buddha Shakyamuni, the historical founder of Buddhism, is honoured in numerous Buddhist traditions as a meditation deity as well. The other three deities are widely known particularly in Vajrayana Buddhism. Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan: Chenrezig) is regarded as the embodiment of all-embracing compassion and as the patron of the country of Tibet. The Green Tara (Tibetan: Drölma) – who according to legend arose from the compassionate tears of Avalokiteshvara – is known in tantric Buddhism as the female buddha of the activity of wisdom and compassion. The dharma protector Achala (Tibetan: Miyowa) belongs to the buddha family of Akshobhya and uses wrathful means to protect practitioners. The empowerment regarding all four deities creates an exceptionally authentic and beneficial connection to tantric Buddhism and to the Kadampa tradition from which the Seven-Point Mind Training stems.
