5-Day Milarepa-Retreat

Guru Yoga Practice - Meditation

Course number
12.3
Instructor/teacher
Description

As in previous years, you have the opportunity to end the year with the traditional Milarepa Retreat together with the resident lamas and the sangha.

Milarepa, the famous 11th century master and yogi, is one of the founding fathers of the Kagyu tradition and is famous for his extraordinary life story and for his songs of realization (Sanskrit: doha, tibetan: gur) as a spontaneous expression of his enlightened state.

This year’s Milarepa retreat will focus on Milarepa Guruyoga practice and the reiligios song “The Three Nails”, which was sung by Milarepa for the benefit of his students in the Tiger Cave in Yolmo, Nepal.

The song highlights the view, meditation and conduct of Mahāmudrā. For the Karma Kagyü tradition, this is the center piece of all teachings of the Buddha. The song explains these three essential points exceptionally clear. Here, the meaning of “nail” is used metaphorically for the view, meditation and conduct. And it is the guru, who hammers the nail in place.

Guided meditation sessions complete the retreat.
